Electromagnetic Inspection (EMI)
Electromagnetic inspection (EMI) is one of our core services. We have been providing EMI inspections since we first acquired a unit at our Morgan City facility in 1974. It has proven to be a reliable, efficient, and economical solution for our customers. The method uses magnetic flux leakage (MFL) to inspect in the longitudinal, transverse, and, now with our newest unit, oblique orientations.
Our latest unit can accurately discriminate between ID/OD indications and has onboard digital signal processing that virtually eliminates noise caused by weld lines. The unit marks linear and circumferential flaws in line with the inspection in real time. Our EMI inspections produce auditable digital records that are archived per customer requirements and meet or exceed all API and ASNT requirements.
In general, our EMI units are compatible with tubulars comprising the following characteristics.
Outside Diameter Range | 4.5 to 13.375 in. |
Wall Thickness Range | 0.190 to 0.625 in. |
Length Range | 20 to 48 ft |
Material | Carbon Steel |
